Motors & Actuators

A brief look into the different possibilities of how you can make things move with the Arduino.

Servo Motors

If the servo misbehaves

Servo motors are often used in RC cars. Most small servo motors work with 5 v and don’t draw much current so they will work with the 5v supply from the Arduino, but it’s recommended to use an external power supply even for the servo motors.

DC Motors

DC Motors.
Here is the example we made in class to control the SN754410 with a potentiometer.

H-bridge Circuit

Solenoids

Solenoids are actuators that push or pull when powered.

Transistors

You can use transistors to switch on/off devices that require higher voltage than what the Arduino can provide (5V). They are a good way to control DC Motors, Solenoids and other Actuators.
